WALKING IN THE STREETS, I’VE MET VIOLENCE,FIGURES AND PAINTING

For me, travelling has always been synonymous with « Metropolis » and “Emotions”.
As an urban traveller, I like to feel lost in metropolises to be receptive to the emotions they offer.
First, I travel to the must-be-seen and other tourists’ attractions, as a compulsory step. Once this is done, I’m ready to be caught by the cities as they start talking to me, giving rise to emotions I capture along my walks, when I fully enjoy being lost and without any landmarks.
At this point, seduction lets loose, the city allows itself to be discovered and through places usually disregarded by passers-by, I manage to have, a very personal and intimate perception of it :

- The figures on the wall stare at me, avoid me and attract me
- The suggested urban violence attacks me and scares me
- The pieces of walls remind me of paintings like those of Bacon Basquiat, Rauschenberg, Rothko , Twombly, Warhol, etc …that I have admired in museums and modern or contemporary art exhibitions.

Art is in the street, just keep your eyes open, pay attention to your emotions and be alert, as it won’t last forever. Time is doing its job, the rain or a paintbrush can blot it out. And this is what I like: non lasting marks, fugitive feelings, images fixed forever on paper. And for years, when I returned home to my relatives, I used to share through my photographs the feelings I had experienced in those metropolises.
Exhibition has never been part of my plans.
This has happened by chance, someone fell in love with some of the photographs I used to hang on my own walls. It was in 2003 on a Friday, the 13th !
